Honda have announced that they will base their European racing - TopicsExpress

Honda have announced that they will base their European racing operation in Milton Keynes, UK as they continue preparations for their return to Formula One racing. The Japanese manufacturer is returning to the sport in 2015 in a joint project with McLaren that will see them provide the Woking-based team with 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 engines, as well as the associated energy recovery systems. Whilst the development and manufacture of Honda’s Formula One power units will take place at their research and development centre in Tochigi, Japan, the manufacturer felt it was important to establish a European facility to support its racing operation. Honda plans to begin operations in Milton Keynes in June 2014, with the facility - already being used by Honda associates Mugen - providing a base for their trackside support operations, as well as a suitable location to rebuild and maintain power units. Yasuhisa Arai, Honda’s chief officer of motorsports, said: “With the confirmation of a new F1 operation base in UK, our preparation to join F1 has become more specific and concrete. “To meet and exceed the expectations of our fans, we will accelerate our development to bring back the unique Honda engine sound onto the track.”
