Honestly speaking, Madras Cafe has failed to portray the plight of civilians who were affected by the biggest ethnic war, ever happened in the history of South East Asia over a span of 26 years in Srilanka. The movie neither sheds light on the origin of civil war nor does it take its stand against the Srilankan Government that once conducted holocaust, the racial genocide against the Tamil minority. The movie unfortunately and meaninglessly glorifies one of the representatives of Indian army played by John Abraham, so that he can display his Herogiri throughout the film, where in reality Indian army unsuccessfully played the dual role driven by the political motifs and the desire to project India as a regional power. The film culminates into the heinous assassination of Prime Minister Sri Rajiv Gandhi (Though in film he is constantly referred as Ex- Prime Minister). LTTE is termed as LTF and its chief Pravakaran is named as Anna. Again saying, the director, Soojit Sircar has played a very safe game which is very unlikely for a true artist. 2.5 on a 5 point scale.
