Honolulu----In light of what is going on nationally regarding the Ray Rice story, the Honolulu Police Department has opened up an assault investigation on one of its own HPD officers, who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend at Kunis Restaurant in Waipahu. HPD Sgt. Darren Cachola --- an 18-year police veteran according to internal affairs investigators allegedly assaulted his girlfriend only identified as Deborah, who is a manager at a Kunis restaurant in Waipahu. Surveillance video showed Cachola punched Deborah and beating her. while co workers had to come in and rescue her from Cachola. But Deborah released a statement saying that the two was playing around. Three Policemen responded to a 911 call but left when they found out that Cachola was involved. HPD has temporarily removed Cacholas police powers and started an investigation after a citizen provided HPD the video on Tuesday. Cacholas ex-wife, with whom he had three children, filed two petitions for temporary restraining orders against him in 2002 and 2009. Both were dismissed at hearings in 2002 for lack of evidence and in 2009 by mutual consent. Both Cachola and his ex-wife admitted putting false information in opposing TRO petitions. He filed for divorce in 2009, she was awarded custody of all three children. Cacholas ex-wife claimed in TRO documents that he threatened he would kill her if she called the police on him. But she killed the cops anyway and made several complaints against him, including harassment.
