Honolulu Newspaper Out Loud “Blood bank awaits HART response” was the headline I read to friends today. “Can’t pump contributions without a beat,” Leprechaun Miki puckishly replied in his pun-filled way. Then came today’s front-page stuff about the Honolulu Police Chief. “The Hawaiian Police Chief is operating the department for less than is budgeted and burglaries have been reduced.” Kealoha is contradicting state protocol of budget shortfall (spending more than one should.) Hawaii State Senators are known to favor lower-level employment and higher taxes. True to form, Senator Espero suggests that instead of having one police chief we have more than one running things. Thats because more people may be able to equal the work of one successful man at a higher cost. “This is how people we elect to political office in Hawaii think,” I explained to friends who shook their heads in disbelief. …HART and built-up bureaucracy give people jobs,” I explained. “Higher costs are the heart beat of Hawaii’s economy. Its why locals elect who they do. Productivity is a shibboleth without value here. Little guys, who are very hard workers and fast--not half fast--show their heads in agreement.
