Honolulu officials are doing everything they can to make homeless people disappear. There was an article this weekend in the New York Times focusing attention on these extreme measures. In a strange perversion of language they are using the Hawaiian word for compassion, aloha, to describe the demand to leave the beach. The overall policy is called compassionate disruption--a phrase that would leave George Orwell speechless.
