Honor- Honor is a prime word in the scriptures. As believers we ought to keep scriptural admonitions fresh. Despite and in spite of prevailing circumstances in our world we must remain unspotted. As believers we must guard our minds with all diligence (Proverbs 4:23) and renew it as well from all worldly information which have gained mastery over our thinking Romans 12:2. Honour means to respect, treat as uncommon. It implies to treat as sacred. It should be our attitude towards things, people, places and events of which God has put His name and seal upon. Let’s examine a few scriptures on the importance of honour. Mark 6:1 And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. 2 And when the Sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. 4 But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. 5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. 6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. I dont know about you dear reader, but for me this scripture gives me the greatest instruction on honour. Jesus could not DO ANY mighty work. It was not an issue of his will. It was not a case of a lack of ability. He was anointed but the power of God could not move. All for just one reason- Lack of Honour from the crowd! This he termed unbelief. Dishonour has several kids. Some are Siamese (in twos and threes), others are conjoined twins. One of these is UNBELIEF. It’s one of the prime kids of dishonour, we shall examine this later. Matthew 10:11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence. 12 And when ye come into an house, salute it. 13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. 15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city. The issue is repeated here again. When God sends men to cities, they must be welcomed, honoured, received. They came from God. They must be respected. The consequences are dire, Jesus didnt use ordinary words. The blessings return. The power is stifled. The people remain the same! 42 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. 41He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophets reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous mans reward. We must not receive one in another name. We must receive men as God has called them, in spite of our sentiments. If he is a righteous man, as He is. If he is Gods servant, as He is! Honour is faith in action. Mark 5: 25-34 The famous woman with the issue of blood honoured the anointing upon Jesus. She came among the crowd. She pressed. Many touched His clothes for different reasons. Some to confirm what they read in the news, how he now wore designer clothes. Some to prove to themselves...Theres really nothing special about Him anyways. He is just a man. But she touched Him with respect to who He really is (was). She received a prophet in His Name. Jesus was not planning a healing meeting. He was trying to get through the crowd. Jarius had a serious matter. But honour always receives from God. ALWAYS! Men we do not honour can’t bless us. Even if they were Jesus of Nazareth! She touched with Honour. This was faith! Honour is taught throughout the scriptures. The epistles are very loud on this. Many of us have become secular in our thinking. We have treated the sacred as secular (ordinary, common) and criminally treated the secular as sacred! We have used expletives. We have used mockery. We have lost the Christian virtue- Honour. Let’s honour what God calls honourable and sacred. I have been speaking to and with younger ministers for over a decade and half. I have seen many ‘lose’ their ministries because they dont regard others. What you dont respect you dont attract! Some are struggling with the call of God today because they have treated the sacred as common. When you do this, you are rehearsing your swan song in the ministry! If you are an upcoming minister, ensure you follow this thread. You will be eternally grateful. We continue from here tomorrow! Seen this? Say I honour all that God honours. I refuse to treat the sacred as secular and the secular as sacred! Have a blessed week ahead Jesus is Lord,We win!
