Honor to the Troops 27-year-old Spc. Angel L. Lopez died on Oct. 5 in the Zabul province when his unit was attacked by a group of enemy forces. He was from Parma, Ohio. Lopez was a wheeled vehicle mechanic assigned to the 201st Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Fort Knox. He began his military service in Jan. 2012 and arrived to Fort Knox in July 2012. This was Lopezs first deployment. His awards and decorations included Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Combat Star, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, NATO medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
