Hope I dont piss you off. But if I do tell me where I am wrong or misguided, and lets figure out how to make things better. The problem didnt start tonight, and I dont think very many people are surprised with the outcome, so I ask what now? We didnt see the evidence, so we cant question or dispute the grand jury (some witness say he was fleeing others say he was attacking). I agree that black males are disproportionately affected by the justice system, but what now? I feel for Michael Browns family and the whole community, but what now? Crime and rioting is only going to create a bigger chisism between the community and the police. Do we encourage more diversity in the ranks of law enforcement, in politics and government so that we have a voice at the table? Or do we just yell FTP? Do we fight for a better education system in all communities, do we go to school boards, city hall, and our federal representatives and demand to be heard and to demand fair treatment? Do we put our money behind the issues we believe in? You always hear about all the donations to support George Zimmerman and Darrin Wilson, but how much did you donate to support Martin or Browns legal fees in search of the truth? You can say that I am missing the point, and tonight is about Michael Brown, but I will just retort that I could be Michael Brown, my son could be Michael Brown, and countless minorities could be Michael Brown. But the truth is the system that may have failed him will continue to fail us because it can do so without major consequences. Real policy change only works when their is constant consistent work being carried out, and thats why the NRA, MAAD, PETA and others get stuff done. The Rainbow/Push coalition or NAACP wont still be marching in Furgeson in a month because they will be busy looking for the next photo-op. A few days from now we wont be hashtagging Michael Brown nor Furgeson. We will be talking about these Black Friday sales, fried turkeys, and some other meaningless crap. But you can best believe we will just be mad again the next time it happens (and it will happen). How many people are still fighting stand your ground laws in florida? How often do you hear about Trevon Martin when he is not being lumped in with Michael Brown... So like I say, what now?
