Hope Versus Expectations: The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. Pro 10:28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish. Pro 10:29 The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity. Pro 10:30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth. Pro 10:31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out. Pro 10:32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness. Good morning. In the Proverbs we often see contrasts. Todays text is yet another example of the vast difference between living for the LORD and living for oneself. The fear of the LORD prolongs ones days while the years of the wicked shall be shortened. Notice there is a slight difference even in the contrast? The writer of this proverb moves from days to years. The next verse moves from hope to expectation. Then strength and destruction. Never removed versus shall not inhabit. And on the contrasts go with minute differences that make a huge difference in the outcome. Hope versus expectation, is there really that much difference? Yes there most certainly is. When you expect something its almost as if you have earned it. When you expect something its like someone owes you. What happens when your expectations are not met? You dont have to tell me I know! But to live in and with hope, well thats a totally different end that doesnt really ever end does it? I can live in hope all of my life. But I cannot live with expectations because someone or something is going to disappoint me and my world will come crashing down. What would you rather live with, hope or expectations? What if your expectations get crushed? How will you go on? But to live with hope, well you can always be glad because if you are living right your hope is well founded and built upon a solid foundation. No, it is not hope in hope but rather hope in the righteousness of the LORD. Living right has many blessings but hope that allows joy and gladness has to be among the top of that list. Hope versus expectation, which will you live with today? Love, Brother Randell
