Hope this comes to you in time... Spring frost can wreak havoc - TopicsExpress

Hope this comes to you in time... Spring frost can wreak havoc on those newly planted vegetables, herbs & tender spring leaves on trees & shrubs. Frost generally forms in low areas on cold, clear nights. If you think you might need to protect your plants... then you probably should. Heres a list of things you can do; 1.) Mulch. Grass clippings, Leaves, Straw, etc. in extreme cases, Ive gone to the extent of packing leaves around the crown & trunk of vulnerable veggies. 2.) Water do a depth of 6 inches. Wet soil holds more heat. 3.) Cover and/or wrap with cloth. Blankets, Sheets, etc. but be wary of using plastic if it dips down really low. I contemplated leaving my newly potted potager out in the cold to toughen them up. I have since come to the conclusion, Better safe than sorry. They are now safe & warm. Hope you are too.
