Hope you can come to the Connecticut Council on Adoptions June 20 - TopicsExpress

Hope you can come to the Connecticut Council on Adoptions June 20 Annual Luncheon and Meeting, with our lobbyist Mr. Matthew Hallisey as Keynote Speaker! Details here in our email newsletter today: Happy Summer, Friends! As you know we are waiting for Governor Malloy to (hopefully!) sign Public Act 14-133, which will restore access to original birth certificates to adoptees whose adoptions were finalized after 1983. The Governor is still reviewing a myriad of bills passed late in the session (like ours), so while the wait is frustrating it is not a sign that there is a problem. (To bring us good kismet, the banner on this newsletter is a picture of myself and Vice President Carol Goodyear with the Governor, taken a few weeks ago. See the little star in his jacket pocket? Its the Access Connecticut magical wand! Seriously!) In the meantime, Id like to take this opportunity to encourage all of you to attend the Connecticut Council on Adoptions Annual Luncheon and Meeting, on Friday, June 20 at Dakota Restaurant in Rocky Hill. Mr. Matthew Hallisey, our excellent lobbyist whose efforts were critical to successful passage of the bill, will be the Keynote Speaker (along with a short contribution from yours truly). Complete details and registration information are contained in this flyer: ctadoption.org/documents/CCALuncheon2014.pdf As you know we need to return to the legislature to restore rights for all of us pre-1983 adoptees. Matt is going to speak to the legislative/lobbyist process and what we all need to know to become better grassroots lobbyists. It will be educational and fun! Just prior to the luncheon there will be a free screening of Jean Strauss ADOPTED: for the life of me. The Connecticut Council on Adoption has been a strong supporter of adoptee rights for many years, in addition to being a lead organization supporting improvement of adoption practices in Connecticut. You dont have to be a member to attend the luncheon, but for an additional $15 you can join CCA and support this organization which has been such a great advocate of adoptee rights. Hope you see you there! Karen
