Hope you dont mind my sharing a little poem I wrote in light of losing a friend and fellow medic today in New Brunswick: When asked if okay, he smiled, said yes, Inside he felt hollow, never would he confess. Those demons he fought, asking no one for help, Wondering how many of these feelings others have felt. His eyes, so knowing, have seen so much, Years of pain and hurt have clouded them up. Leaving little room for joy and smiles, Hed kept that hidden for the longest while. Racing thoughts, many sleepless nights, Fear running rampant, a dangerous plight The visual images readily appear As a constant reminder of another’s tears. Everyday a brave face that he’d put on, To go about his duties, never once letting on, How much he continued to suffer in silence Replaying the visions of hatred and violence. While others are left behind to wonder, This tragedy leaves us much to ponder. Why these heroes feel they must do this alone, We’ll be silent no more! Please, pick up the phone. And be there for each other, now and always, We may see the same things but cope differently. By: Melissa Saucier Paramedic, Moncton Stn. Aug. 19, 2014
