Hopefully optimistic on my A/C! A Honda mechanic hotshot referral - TopicsExpress

Hopefully optimistic on my A/C! A Honda mechanic hotshot referral (now a friend) visited us last night to do a check-up. Immediately, he noticed that the vent near the windshield was open, which I didnt even know could be shut. He shut it and it increased the air flow through the other vents by 100%. As I had already told him about the stalling problem when I try to run the A/C when its over 100 degrees (nearly every day in the summer), so as were sitting in the car, he has me increase the RPMs for a while and then take my foot off the gas. Though it wasnt over 100 degrees last night while we were working on this, the car did get close to stalling every time Id take the gas off. He told me my idle was too low. Well, duh! Thats what I kept telling the first mechanic, but it didnt register with him. So, my new mechanic adjusted the idle and we watched the thermometer as I actually lost a few degrees in the air blowing from the vents. So, this morning, Im testing things out by heading to get a new air filter (likely need one with all the desert dust), which will also help improve the A/C. Good news is that as I drove this morning, I ran the A/C, the car didnt stall, and the air was far cooler than its ever been! The next in line is having the A/C system evacuated and recharged, which my first mechanic didnt do (only added more freon). Hope springs eternal for Happy-Go-Honda!
