Hopi Homes: Historical and Today Traditional Insights of a Home and Empowering Solutions for Modern Day Challenges Sat., Jan. 17, Sedona Library, free program Along with Susan Secakuku of Hopi speaking on the meaning of home to Hopi people--Joe Seidenberg, of the non-profit Red Feather Development Group which has been building green homes at Hopi, will speak of the empowering programs he has helped develop and lead such as DIY workshops for Hopis in home and safety repairs, weatherization and more. Red Feather believes that safe, healthy homes are the foundation for healthy families and communities. Their mission is to partner with American Indian nations to develop and implement sustainable solutions to the housing needs within their communities. They achieve this by building and improving homes with sustainable materials, providing green construction training and employment opportunities, and conducting community outreach and education on sustainable building practices and healthy housing. An engaging presentation will provide an overview of the empowering community based solutions Red Feather utilizes to address housing inequalities found in many American Indian Reservation as well as traditional Hopi perspectives on housing and its importance to the community. Joe has over 8 years of experience successfully developing and implementing community based programs both domestically and internationally. He has been instrumental in establishing many of Red Feathers healthy home and green job training initiatives that have significantly increased the number of individuals served by the organization.
