Horatio Spafford was a well known and successful businessman in the 1800s. He lost his son to illness in 1870. Then he lost much of his wealth in a fire, and then lost his 4 daughters in a steamship wreck. Even after all of this, he wrote the lyrics to It is Well With My Soul. One of the verses goes like this- When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul. God gave him peace, even though many terrible things had happened to him. If you have trusted Christ as Savior, you can trust God to help you, no matter what you go through. He is faithful in good times and bad times! These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace.
