Horror Movie Marathon 10/29 Movie 29 - Halloween 2007 Scare Factor - Freaking nuts Every year during Halloween the Carpenter classic is run about a million times. Theres always a Michael Myers marathon on. I bet right now, if you turned your TV on; you would find one of the Halloween movies being played. The 1978 was an instant classic and it was only strengthened by its 1981 follow-up. The Halloween series was originally intended to be a series where each movie was its own story. That is why Halloween 3 was so different from the series. Not many people understand that. What Carpenter wanted to do was a real cool idea and I wish Michael Myers didnt become a hit because those movies developed into a terrible fad. They should have simply ended Myers and go on to new stories. Maybe the idea of an annual movie with a different idea just doesnt work. I would pay money to see them each year. Anyways, I like the classic movie but in 2009 Rob Zombie directed a remake. Normally remakes are a bad thing. The Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street remakes were horrible. But man, this Halloween 2009 remake is awesome! I do believe it is better than the 78 version and heres why. Yes the violence is more extreme but you actually get a glimpse into the upbringing of Michael Myers. The kid went OFF the deep-end and it all makes sense. The Myers family is like a giant mass of garbage. Michaels mom is a stripper, his sister is a slut and a jerk and the step-dad is a waste of skin. Everyone cusses at each other and there is absolutely no love between anyone. You get that real well. You also see that Michael is a troubled kid right from the beginning so it creates this expectation and eagerness while you watch the movie. WHEN IS HE GOING TO GO OFF!? is what you keep thinking and when he finally becomes the killer we all know, then its a roller coaster of terror. We all know the story. Michael Myers kills his family members (except for his baby sister) and years later he escapes from his hospital to seek out his sister to complete the process. He hunts down his sister Laurie, killing everyone that gets in his way. Unlike the 78 version, this one kind of explains Michaels motive and puts a spin on it. He doesnt really want to kill Laurie, he just wants to be a family I guess. But that ends and he soon tries to kill her. But the thought was there and it gives the character more depth than just a dude wearing a mask and killing for the pleasure of it. The movie is completely insane. The death scenes make you grind your teeth. Its a typical Rob Zombie film where the character development is done well. You do connect to each person. Even Michael to an extent. The scenes where Michael is chasing Laurie is intense and it just goes on and on and all you can do is freak out. The only thing I dont like about the movie is the language. Its so vulgar but I guess I would too in those circumstances. An interesting thing is that Danielle Harris is in this film. If you dont know who she is then you suck. The movie ends just like the original and Rob Zombie did make a sequel. Sad to say the second one wasnt as good. It dives into the psychosis of Michael a lot more. Its also darker and more brutal. I guess thats the only route you could go. youtube/watch?v=3elMmW5i1tI
