Horse teach humans and mud is good for the skin :-) It was farrier day today and after all the prep (thanks Jody for the email and everyone who commented) he was a star. He stood, lifted his feet when asked. Did not bat an eyelid with the smoke and the hot iron or nailing the shoes on. There was a little sticky moment, when we put the first foot down after being done and Aston decided he could not possibly move it. But he got over that. The farrier commented on what a fab boy he was (thank you Parelli). The yard owner, a very nice lady, thought overreach boots might be a good idea, so he does not pull the shoes off in the field, and we stuck them on him as well. Aston coped spledidly and I was sooo proud of him. We went for a little walk, had a little graze, went for another little walk etc etc. Then to the field and his field buddy. Opened the gate and Aston was not quite sure. So I went in with him. Could not put my finger on it, but he was really awkward. Turned him loose and was about to turn, when he did an almighty jump forward trying to get across the mud (talking about hindquarter propulsion here) and covered me from head to toe in mud. I have mud in my face, my ears, my .... - just as well I was not smiling at the time. Well .... guess he was telling me that mud and shoes was just too much to ask. Another lesson learnt .... :-)
