Horses for Healing (HFH) is reaching out to the local community for volunteers to help make a positive difference in the lives of children with special needs. The next session begins Tuesday, February 17th. Children will attend therapeutic riding lessons Monday through Fridays for 6 weeks. HFH provides therapeutic riding lessons to children with special needs which helps them grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. Oftentimes, children achieve breakthroughs in the saddle that traditional therapies have not been able to accomplish. Volunteer duties include helping the children make horse-related crafts in a classroom setting and walking alongside the children as they ride. “Volunteering at Horses for Healing is rewarding and fun” said Executive Director Linda Brown. “Our volunteers see many positive life changes - children who say their first word while riding and some take their first steps because of the physical strength, balance, and coordination they gain. Anyone who loves children will be deeply gratified by the difference they can make by spending as little as three hours a week at Horses for Healing.” Volunteer orientation class will be held two mornings from 9:00 AM till Noon on Wednesday February 4th and on Thursday February 5th, as well as two evenings from 4:00 PM till 7:00 PM on Tuesday February 3rd and Friday February 6th. New volunteers must attend only one of these classes. Makeup days are available, and no horse experience is required. Horses for Healing is located at 14673 Daniels Road in Bentonville. Anyone interested in volunteering may contact Lexie Kerr at [email protected] or (479) 883-9468 or visit horsesforhealingnwa.org.
