Horses today that seem to be still wild (such as Mustangs) are actually a cross between the descendants of the wild horses that were brought to America from Spain in the sixteenth century. Really wild horses are a breed imported from Asia. The ancestor of the horse, called Hyracotherium, appeared 60 million years ago and was very small. Her height was only 14 centimeters and weighed 5 pounds. In contrast to modern horses giraktorii had four toes on the front hooves and three in the rear. Australia is the only continent on which there has never been found a single fossil horse.
