Hostess Job Description A hostess performs a first tier job; this means that any customer coming into a restaurant will be greeted by a hostess initially. Possessing the role of first contact, a hostess position is extremely important as a customer will deem the rest of the hospitality setting as good or bad as the first point of contact is portrayed. Having established that a hostess’s work is pivotal to the success of any restaurant, these professionals need to understand the need for proper etiquette and service standards along with the ability to take direction and work in a team environment. Hostesses need to be able to work around difficult situations and must possess exceptional organizational skills and problem solving abilities. Greet guests and patrons personally and on the telephone ● Offer appropriate seating arrangements ● Present menus and take orders ● Ensure the quantity of menus is sufficient to cater to the number of guests ● Maintain and confirm reservations through online reservation system ● Set up dining rooms and make reservation arrangements ● Maintain clean and organized tables and work area ● Manage event related work including setting up tables and maintaining both exterior and interior of the restaurant Physical Requirements: • Walks and stands during entire shift. • Continuously reach, bend, lift, carry, and wipe. • Remain stationary for long periods of time. • Be Able to lift up to 35 lbs. • Hazards may include, but are not limited to, slipping and tripping.
