Hotel Playa Pesquero Some history you might not know... !!! The strong and long noise of the oldest locomotive that worked for the region, was the sign waited by many people. The Cuban President was already in front of the Playa Pesquero Hotel. It was exactly 3:37 of the evening of Tuesday, January 21st, 2003 Shortly would be inaugurated the biggest five stars All Inclusive Hotel in the country and the Tourist International Destination of Holguín, operated on fundamentally by three hotel groups: Cubanacan, Islazul and Gaviota. The Commander Fidel Castro Ruz came dressed in his typical olive-green suit and joined to Ignacio Ramonet, the director of Le Monde Diplomatique and Cuba’s friend; Jorge Luis Sierra Cruz, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the Holguín province and executives of the Tourism. The visit to this mini city with buildings of architecture of Caribbean environment was initiated by Fidel for the Italian Restaurant, where he was waited by Holguín Symphonic Orchestra and the young tenor Yuri Hernández, who from an authentic Venetian gondola interpreted majestically O Sole Mío, Neapolitan song of Ernesto Di Capua. The topic of the railroad in the hotel does honor to the merit of being Cuba the fourth country of the world and first of Latin America in having this way of transport, with the recreation in all the lounges of allegoric elements, among them, ferreous lines and banks of wait, whereas in the design of exteriors and landscape they are avenues by names of streets and places of the Santiago de Cuba and Holguín provinces, such as Enramada, Alto Cedro and La Gran Piedra. The President of the Republic of Cuba had another special moment in an exhibition of Contemporary Art opened for the occasion in one of the lounges of the hotel, with the participation approximately of 30 plastic artists of Holguín and guests of other territories, among them, Cosme Proenza, Julio Méndez, Jorge Hidalgo y Kcho, who requested to Fidel to sign a collective mural done by them. This mural remained as historical recollection of this day, where culture, history, nature, dreams and hopes walked of the hand, to reaffirm to all that the Playa Pesquero Hotel is predestined to the success. The Artistic Show put the golden clasp to this magnificent day, of which enjoyed Fidel, his accompanists and good part of more than 500 guests come specially from Canada, Germany, Italy and other latitudes to the opening of this exceptional installation. The expert Alberto Méndez, general manager of the spectacle did that the spectators were travelling imaginarily among music, dance and rites. In that way he got combine to young people and old people, to the traditional thing and the educated thing in a real merger of cubanía. Also Fidel delivered certificates in recognition of the entities that participated with the success of the construction and set going with quality and in time of this Giant of the Cuban East. These entities were: the Group of Tourism Gaviota S.A, owner of this installation, Union of Cuban Military Construction and ALMEST. This way was inaugurated the Tourist International Destination of Holguín with 4 thousand 799 rooms, where as in the rest of the country we have peaceful, safe and healthy tourism, as affirmed the Commander Fidel Castro Ruz
