House Speaker Calls on Nixon to Release Remaining Funding September 13th, 2013 | Author: Ed Button (Jefferson City) – House Speaker Tim Jones has called on Governor Nixon to release the remaining $185.2 million he continues to withhold from the balanced budget passed by the General Assembly. Jones joined House Budget Chairman Rick Stream and Budget Committee members, Reps. Sue Allen and Tom Flanigan, in expressing deep disappointment at the governor’s decision to continue withholding $185.2 million of the more than $400 million in withholdings he has made this year. “Governor Nixon remains is the one public official who has continued to stand in the way of education by denying our young people the record levels of funding appropriated by the legislature,” said Speaker Jones. “By continuing his withholds from education he is showing Missourians that his priorities are focused on expanding government welfare programs and not educating our children.” The funds released by Nixon include more than $100 million authorized by the General Assembly for K-12 and higher education. Jones says the governor continues to deny funding for other education programs and projects such as the Early Grade Literacy Program and the Pike-Lincoln Technical Center. Nixon’s budget director, Linda Luebbering, said the administration is withholding $185 million because of continued uncertainty about the budget
