Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling and Medications Disposal Event to be held Saturday, November 1st in Poughkeepsie Poughkeepsie...The Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency will hold the last Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Event of the year on Saturday, November 1st from 7:30 am to 9:00 am at the Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency at 96 Sand Dock Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie. The event includes safe medication disposal from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. A complete list of accepted material is included below. Pre-registration is required and there is a $5 fee. Call the Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency at (845) 463-6020 or visit dcrra.org/ to pre-register and schedule an appointment. The 2014 collection events have been extremely successful. More than 110,000 pounds of hazardous chemicals and mercury-containing fluorescents have been properly disposed of and nearly 120,000 pounds of electronics have been recycled year to date. Nearly 250 pounds of medications have also been safely disposed of at the DCRRA’s collection events, in addition to the 3,100 pounds collected from safe medication drop box locations and take back events throughout Dutchess County, as well as take back events and drop boxes in surrounding counties. The collection events are open to all Dutchess County residents and are partially funded by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency’s 2014 Household Waste Disposal Days Materials that WILL be accepted: Product containers marked with words: Warning, Hazardous, Flammable, Poisonous, or Corrosive Photo chemicals, non latex driveway sealer, pool chemicals, creosote, kerosene, flammable liquids, metal polish, turpentine, stains, varnishes, strippers, thinners, gasoline/oil mixture, brake fluid, auto fluids, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, chemical fertilizers, adhesives, resins, solvents, oil & lead based paints (no latex!), mercury containing devices, button cell batteries for watches & hearing aids, lithium & sealed lead acid batteries, compact fluorescent lights and fluorescent tubes, and small non-Freon appliances (such as humidifiers, toasters, irons, and electric heaters.) Electronic Equipment Collection Computer Monitors, Central Processing Units (CPUs), Modems, CRTs, Terminals, Laptops, Keyboards, Mouse, Fax Machines, Printers, Scanners, Copiers, Typewriters, TVs, VCRs, DVD Players, CD Players, Tape Players, Radios, Stereo Equipment, Cables, Answering Machines, Telephones & Video Game Systems. Bins will also be available at the DCRRA location only to dispose of junk mail, white paper, magazines, newspaper and commingled bottles & cans. There is no fee charged and no registration needed for these bins. Materials that will NOT be accepted: Ammunition or explosives, asbestos products, latex driveway sealer & latex paint, motor oil, car batteries, antifreeze, broken glass, building or construction debris, tires, furniture, medical waste/medicines, propane or other flammable gas cylinders, radioactive materials, scrap metal, metal drums or empty containers, dehumidifiers, and air conditioners.
