Housing Regeneration – Red Hall The Council has identified Red Hall as a focus for housing regeneration and environmental improvements from 2014/15 once the current programme underway in Cockerton is completed. In our new draft planning document, known as Making and Growing Places, we are asking residents what they like and dislike about the area, and what they would like to see changed. • Some houses do not meet peoples needs - could repairing, changing the internal layout and remodelling existing housing help or would some selective demolition, redevelopment and new homes also be needed? • There is a lack of housing tenure choice - most housing is social rented with limited uptake of right to buy – would changing the mix of housing types and tenures meet local needs? • Red Hall has poor links with the rest of the town and there is only one route in/out – would better access by foot, bike, bus as well as by car help people get to work, shops and services safely and easily? • There are limited local shops, services and community facilities in Red Hall – are more facilities needed? What should they be? • Increasing costs of repair, maintenance and heating of homes is creating difficulties for some people – how can they be helped? • There are pockets of anti social behaviour – how can this be managed to make the area a safer place to live? • Red Hall has a lot of open space but not all of it is used for sport and recreation – are different types of open space needed? Are there enough different spaces for people of different ages to use? • There is some underused land in the former Stables area to the north –what is it used for? Could it be used for other things? • Two large new neighbourhoods are planned at Lingfield Point (south of the Eastern Transport Corridor) and in the Eastern Urban Fringe (east of Red Hall). It is important that links are made to Red Hall – what issues and opportunities could new development bring? A masterplan will be prepared which will set out local people’s and the Council’s vision for the area – this will inform the finalised Making and Growing Places which will say how the land use planning issues will be addressed.
