(Houston, TX)…..Following the decision of Judge Elizabeth Ray to have both parties, H.I.S.D. representatives and members of the Wheatley-E.O. Smith Preservation Coalition, to engage in mediation yesterday regarding the pending demolition of the historic Wheatley-E.O.Smith structure, the meeting concluded after eleven (11) hours of mediation at the Civil Courts Bldg. Currently, mediation is ongoing until a later date and the Historic Wheatley-E.O. Smith Preservation Coalition representatives are presently under “gag order” to not discuss or disclose the details of the negotiations at this point. Final decision will hinge on the vote of the H.I.S.D. Board of Trustees. The Historic Wheatley-E.O.Smith Preservation Coalition remains committed to the preservation of the historic site and are encouraging the community inclusive of alumni, historical preservationists, community leaders, elected officials and other supporters to attend the scheduled H.I.S.D. Board meeting on Thursday, Sept. 11th at 5:00 pm. Efforts will continue to save the historic site.
