Houston stood with Gaza tonight!! ...exceeding the target & goals for the Islamic Relief fundraiser at the Raindrop Turkish House. All week we felt depressed, helpless and frustrated by the news out of Gaza. Numbness started to creep in and we wondered what in the world we could do to make a difference. Tonight at the Islamic Relief Iftar for Orphans in Palestine - July 19th I am proud to say the Houston community raised over $150,000 (exceeding the intended goal for the night). Besides the IR staff that flew in (Chairman, Dr Amr Attawia & Khalid Bakali) we had tremendous efforts from Fatima Sultan, Hina Syed and of course Asmaa Syed... and so many other sisters & brothers I cannot remember all of them by name.. Saira Siddiqui sh Joe Bradfords speech was very concise, moving and heartfelt and sh. Fahad Tasleems fundraising was passionate and you knew he would not stop until we hit or exceeded the goals. I didnt know their names but the big stars of the night were half a dozen girls from different colleges? high schools? who helped to pack and deliver leftover food that could easily serve over 200 people. This food was taken to different mosques and centers. And I could not miss thanking these fellas, Zeyn Patel, Rizwan Patrawala, Ahmed Mattoo, Masoud M. Durani and Faraz Adil Khan who did what they always do.. helped make sure the event was done right. May God accept from everybody who played a part tonight! Ameen.
