How Bangladesh factory safety concerns were ignored On 24 April 2013 the eight-storey Rana Plaza building in Savar, Bangladesh collapsed. The scale of the disaster which followed - over 1,100 dead, most of them workers in factories making clothes for retailers in the West - resonated around the world. One of the most shocking aspects was the fact that this was not a tragedy without warning - far from it. Workers had been complaining about cracks in the building for weeks.
