How ‘Bout Them Cowboys by Kathie DeNosky As a die-hard - TopicsExpress

How ‘Bout Them Cowboys by Kathie DeNosky As a die-hard country music fan, I’ve heard George Strait’s song “How ‘Bout Them Cowgirls” many times and while I applaud his celebration of these hard-working western women, I’m more fascinated by their male counterparts. Yes, there’s just something about a man dressed in Wrangles, a chambray work shirt, tooled-leather belt, scuffed boots and a wide-brimmed, black Resistol that will make me turn around and take a second look every time. There’s a certain charm about the modern cowboy, whether he’s from Texas like the heroes from my The Good, The Bad and The Texan series or from Wyoming like Chance Lassiter from Lured By the Rich Rancher in my contribution to Dynasty: The Lassiters that women can’t seem to resist. A cowboy has a reputation for working hard, playing hard and treating a woman the way a man should. He’s not afraid to stand up for what he believes is right even when the odds are stacked against him, but he has a soft spot for animals and children that defies his tough, often stern exterior. He’s an honorable man and won’t start a fight, but he’ll stand his ground and won’t back down from one either. He’s protective and will put his life on the line if that’s what it takes to protect his family. Who knows exactly what makes him so intriguing? Maybe it’s all of the above mentioned traits, maybe it’s his down to earth way of viewing the world or possibly his adherence to The Cowboy Code—a set of ethics and manners that he lives by without question or pause. But there is no denying there’s something about a cowboy that has universal appeal. Whatever it is he has, men want to emulate him and women want to be with him. But these are just my thoughts on why a cowboy makes the perfect hero. Now I want to hear yours. And by the way, my sincere apologies to real life cowboy and country singer George Strait for borrowing and changing one of the lines in his song. But how ‘bout them cowboys? Girls, ain’t they somethin’?
