How Ex- Kogi Senatorial Candidate Impersonated EFCC Director of Operations- Witness Justice L.B Lawal Akapo of the Lagos High Court today ( Tuesday, March 4, 2014) heard how Abdul Azeez Bello, a former Kogi Senatorial Candidate impersonated the Director of Operations of the EFCC, Mr. Olaolu Adegbite. At the commencement of the trial on Tuesday, prosecution witness, Chuks Offor, Personal Assistant (Protocol) to the Wife of the Executive Governor of Abia state, Mrs Mercy Orji, while being led in evidence by the EFCC counsel, O.A. Owodunni told the court that the impersonation scam started in early 2013, when a group of governors came on tour of Abia state. A caterer, Mrs. Ola, who was hired to offer refreshment to the governors, reportedly sought the assistance of Offor to make a deposit in one of the banks. Offor sent Nelson Ndukwe, one of the aides of Mrs Orji, to assist the caterer with the deposit. However, Ndukwe vanished with the money only to call Offor the following day that he had been arrested by Operatives of the EFCC over a petition purportedly written against the wife of the governor. Ndukwe allegedly told Offor that a certain Mr. Olaolu Adegbite, Director of Operations of the EFCC had, however, agreed to assist the First Lady withdraw the petition and invited Offor to a settlement meeting with the supposed Adegbite at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Lagos. Offor contacted the Department of State Service and was instructed him to play along. The department consequently assigned one of its operatives to accompany him to the meeting. When Offor showed up at the meeting, Bello who presented himself as Adegbite was on hand to receive him. The operative that came with Offor swiftly arrested Bello and handed him over to the EFCC. Justice Akapo adjourned the matter to May, 26 and 27, 2014 for continuation of trial. Media & Publicity 4th March, 2014
