How Exhaustion Can Increase Your Risk for a Heart Attack A Mount Sinai School of Medicine study presented at the November 2014 American Heart Associations Scientific Sessions stated that fatigue, irritability, and demoralization can increase the risk of first time cardiovascular disease by 36%. This is known as vital exhaustion. In Japan this syndome is known as Karoshi and in general medicine theres a similar condition called broken heart syndrome. These researchers reviewed eleven studies that studied the relationship between vital exhaustion and first-time heart disease that involved 60,000 people without disease at the beginning of the study. As society becomes more goal driven and fast paced theres an increase in working hours and a lessening of sleep, exercise, and relaxation.
