Tips and Tidbits 1) - GARLIC CLOVES: Peeling garlic cloves becomes easier when baked overnight. 2) - EGG SHELLS: When boiling eggs, add salt to keep the egg shells from cracking. 3) - BUGS: To get rid of bugs from plants, mix a pinch of garlic powder in one cup water and sprinkle it near them. 4) - NUTS AND FRUITS: To prevent nuts and fruits from sinking to the bottom of the cake while it is baking lightly toss them in flour before adding them to the cake batter. 5) - TOMATOES: To preserve tomatoes, first stem and blend them. Cook them for 10-15 minutes and cool. Add 3-4 tbsps of cooking oil in 1 kg tomato paste. Freeze it in an ice cube tray and put the cubes in a plastic bag. One cube is equal to 3 medium sized tomatoes. 6) - UNCOOKED RICE: To preserve uncooked rice for longer periods of time, add 50 gms of whole red chillies in every 10 kg rice. 7) - POTATOES AND CHICKPEAS: If potatoes, sweet potatoes and chickpeas become to tender, cool and refrigerate for sometime. 8) - JELLY: Before pouring jelly into the mould, lightly brush the mould with a few drops of cooking oil. This will help remove the jelly easily after it sets. 9) - DRY FRUITS: To store dry fruits for a long time, seal them in a brown bag. Put the brown bag in a plastic bag and keep it in the lower shelf of the refrigerator. 10) - CANDLES: To make candles burn longer, refrigerate them in a plastic bag for several hours before using. 11) - ORANGES: Before using an orange in salads or desserts, soak it in warm water for 5 minutes. The inner white peel will come off easily. 12) - CURRY: If curry burns, add ½ cup milk in ½ kg curry and simmer on low heat for 5-7 minutes. 13) - CIGAR: To remove the smell of cigarette from ashtray, put 1 tsp of baking soda in the ashtray. 14) - LEATHER SUITCASE: For added shine to a leather suitcase, rub it with a soft rag, dipped in lemon juice. 15) - GLASS ITEMS: When packing glass items, wrap each item in a newspaper to prevent them from breaking
