How I got into the collar biz...by Dawn Adams ;) Today our LOVELY Ginger cakes is 13 years young!!! Still going strong and bossing the Danes around! For those of you who dont know her story: Ginger came from Plainfield CT. The Plainfield track was in the news back then...an email was sent from my sister-in-law in Boston...to my sister in Southbury....to me...to pass to a friend who is in dog rescue....well the rest is history! I told Art....I can do this! His reply...Oh no you dont...I KNOW how this will turn out....we dont need another dog! You see we already had two rescues at the time...but I prevailed as wives often do! George and Karen arrived for our home visit with a HUGE black pup named X-man...who was readily accepted by our pups...so it was game ON!!! ;) Within 24 hours our sweet Ginger knew how to Go hurry, lay down, settle, and the ever so popular NO!....MY kitty! As she spit out our black kitty Shadow the first morning! Within a couple of days I WAS IN LOVE but didnt DARE tell Art...2 weeks later she found her fur-ever home...I called Art... his reply? You better keep her...you will measure every dog against her... You see...he had fallen in love also....and we both had been too stubborn to admit it! LOL! Fortunately CJ relented and let us keep our beauty! I must admit...Art needed his own pup and we adopted Guinness soon after! Which brought our foster failure rate up to 66.666% Ginger has been the mother to many foster pups that came through our doors...always ready to welcome a new pup and to keep the peace if they got too loud and playful! Eventually Rachael Rae joined our pack after a leg amputation...and later was STOLEN by my daughter and new son-in-law. (I DO get to have her for the next couple of months with my daughter and new granddaughter in tow as daddy goes out to sea for the Coast Guard!) Two LARGER pups also entered our household after we lost our Guinness to cancer...Danes...and yet Ginger remains the quiet, patient, stern, matriarch! We ARE blessed! Thanks to GRR many beautiful pups have reached their destination on a warm comfy couch! Hope to see many of you at our GRR picnic this year! Stop and give Ginger a little snuggle! She STILL is a BEAUTY!
