How It Really Sits… By Kenrick Georges August 21, 2013. It is always a good idea to stand back and take an analytical look at whatever is being observed. An up close and personal view does not necessarily show all the details, and that out-of-focus image we see as distortion robs the entire object of its periphery. And without a view from every single vantage point, a just conclusion might very well be compromised. With other pressing things to do, a short recess from writing was imposed upon me and, in that time, I gave some thought to what I have been writing, and to some of the responses. I have also read some of what is being offered from those with whom I disagree. Those alternate views have not diminished my cause for concern—real concern for the blatant refusal to be individually thoughtful, and to rethink the wholesale march in lockstep to a very shortsighted mantra, “anybody but Douggie.” But if we submit to the theme of that mantra, who is this “anybody?” And this is where it becomes very risky. The PAM platform is totally compromised from its incessant call for violence to soothe a self-inflicted political wound, which resulted from its failed attempt to subvert the Labour organization’s standing in government, and parliament. To add insult to injury, up to this point, PAM’s nonstrategic forced decision, not to contest two electoral seats (#3 and #7) has further enunciated its irrelevance in the upcoming elections. So with PAM being sidelined, and with no real prospects within its ranks that might emerge with the potential to independently appeal to an undecided sector of the electorate, what are we left with? Let us not pretend that most of us aren’t repulsed by the members of the party of two, to the point of throwing-up. How does one consider an individual for political leadership when that person is already making international enemies while desperately seeking power? And although it is clear that it was a calculated maneuver on the part of the would-be leader, how has the public viewed it? The displeasure is resounding across the entire political spectrum. Our history has shown that political aspirations are not reserved for some nationals and not others; all have the right to seek and to serve. That has been settled for many years. But for Dr. Harris to declare that the Hon. PM Dr. Douglas is putting the country’s health situation at risk by taking physicians out of circulation is preposterous and irresponsible. No information would ever support that frivolous claim. His effort here is to suppress a formidable political opponent in Dr. Gilbert (Md.). We all have seen the character of Dr. Harris, the dysfunction of his moral compass, and the unfathomed depth to which he would go to seize the prize. But Dr. Harris has not stood back and taken a real analytical look at the political landscape ahead. It is a bit disturbing to think that there are some who still believe that there is a genuine premise for the MONC, which a particular writer keeps pushing. With all the evidence, the apologies by the infamous two, and Representative Sam Condor being politically sacrificed have so many of us undergone conscience bypass surgery? The results of the calls for regional and international intervention regarding the MONC have not yielded the desired results for the criers.; so insults are hurled at respected Caribbean leaders who have surmised the situation as being political and domestic, as I have long since determined. Because the truth is so clear, rational decisions can be arrived at. I believe that some citizens may have genuine concerns with some of the PM’s decisions, or policies. But how do we rate the many positives that we are now enjoying in the international arena? St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service has reported that, St. Kitts and Nevis has been identified by the International Monetary Fund as the OECS nation that is expected to register the highest rate of economic growth in 2013 (8:8:2013). All things considered, we all should be proud of such an achievement, and others. I have been accused of giving the PM a pass in my writings, but the fact is that, there is so much of that coming from the other side I can hardly make a dent. I have also chosen not to be part and parcel of the intensely concerted effort to portray a failed-state image of SKN to the world in the social media, as some who claim to love this country continue to do. I hope that we get it right. It is never a good thing for one to be forced to reexamine another person’s principles on account of a basic disagreement wherein different conclusions can be reached. However, ideology that can affect the life of a person in particular ways is where it might begin and end. Our political skies are gloomy, hazy with the many distortions, manufactured political crises, deceptions, mass confusion, bitter hatred for individuals, and many other elements that excite our negative emotions. But we still can find that powerful ray of light that would shine through, and illuminate the truth that would keep us on the path of continued prosperity. We can choose to show love and respect to those who “genuinely” serve and not let the truth get in the way. If we/you have a better option than that which is now in place, please present it.
