How Oprah Winfrey felt about Maya Angelou is how I will always - TopicsExpress

How Oprah Winfrey felt about Maya Angelou is how I will always feel about Leontyne Price. I stalked her recently and got her on the phone. Even her speaking voice is AMAZING. When she said hello, the tone was so pure direct and high pitched. I froze and just said wrong number #fail. The controversy of placing a black woman on prime-time television in the 60s was monumental. Her home state of Mississippi would not even air it. Yet when asked about her struggles and being the first black woman to do many great things, she simply said Accomplishment has no color! This was the very first performance I saw of hers (back in Amarillo) and it still moves me. You dont have to understand the language to understand the story. Just watch her. listen to her. Her notes effortlessly float like at 3:34 and the drama that she gives at the end is effortless. Shes 87 years old now and is still remarkable. youtu.be/QmPkWdVo_ME
