How Prabh Aasra Started? Ans: S. Shamsher Singh, President of the PRABH AASRA (Universal Disabled Care Taker Social Welfare Society) had some fundamental questions in his mind about the care and rehabilitation of the unclaimed sick persons to whom he would come across on the road sides, sick and starved(stranded), living in all weather conditions on the pavements. The concrete and confident answer was found when he realized God is in everyone and he started to serve these destitute. He retained one of the shops at Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab and disposed off the other good running chemist shop at Kharar, Punjab and started to serve these sick persons along with his wife Smt Rajinder Kaur. The efforts to serve needy were started on 15th December 2003. In the beginning, a Home for helpless was started in a rented house at Chandigarh. Three trained teachers and two Caretakers were arranged for inmates and one jeep was bought to provide transport facility. By the end of May, 2004 sixteen children and one widow with her three children were admitted in this Home. Some of the children were day boarders. After some time the house owner asked the founders to vacate for his own reasons. The Inmates then were shifted in new house at village Khanpur, Distt. Mohali. Due to lack of rooms in house the inhabitants were again shifted to another rented house. Looking at all this a kind donor S. Kuldeep Singh of Kharar volunteered to offer one kanal land as donation to the Society on which a part of Home for helpless was established in village Padiala (Kurali). With the cooperation of humane people the construction of the building was started in January 2005 and inhabitants were shifted to the semi finished home in May 2005 to avoid payment of rent to be paid for accommodation. With blessing of God the Society has now two properly functioning branches at village Padiala (Kurali) and village Jhanjeri(near landran), Distt. Ajitgarh (Mohali)PB. and third one was set up at village 41 RB, Tehsil Padampur, Distt. Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan , after an year of working it was handed over to the Society of local kind hearted people. Now it is working under the name of Har Prabh Aasra. Irrespective of deficient accommodation the doors were always kept open to all needy without any difference of caste and creed. Even the local administration bring some destitute to be admitted to the centre as adequate arrangement is not available with the government. Special care for mentally/physically disabled and unclaimed helpless old persons, needy orphans & widows etc was arranged. Some Vocational courses like making bags, wax candles, Soft toys, pot decoration, flowers, glass paintings and canning of chairs for self care training were started, for rehabilitation and to make them self dependent. After proper care and treatment the inhabitants who gain confidence to recall their where abouts were handed over to their guardians after tracing them with the help of Internet. The detail of persons admitted so far is as under: Persons admitted till 30/06/2013 Male: 536 Female: 385 Up till now 668 persons have been reunited with their families in different parts of India. Present strength of the inmates is 192.
