How Veronicas case changed the perspective of a foster parent - TopicsExpress

How Veronicas case changed the perspective of a foster parent regarding adoption. Thank you Brian for sharing.... This case forever altered the way I think about foster care and adoption. It made me re-think my preconceived notions about adoption and made me search the Scripture to find out more about Gods plan for the family and how adoption is a picture of what He did for us. We now look at fostering and adoption as strictly for the childs benefit because God adopted us not because he needs us, but because we need Him. So...when looking at fostering and adopting (which we are currently fostering) we cannot any longer look at our foster child as ours or made for us. They are Gods and they belong to their parents. When and if they are free to adopt, we will do so, but we do not have the right to adopt a child whose parents want them and are able to care for them. If the court determines that is the case our foster child will go back, and though we will be sad and even heartbroken, we will know it was Gods will. We are happy to be foster parents or even to adopt but we will never claim the right to adopt or be parents. There is no such right other than for biological parents.
