How about a third reason: Common sense. If a broad based middle class and working class can earn enough from their labors (all of which are necessary, by the way), then they are able to pay their bills, afford healthcare, have sufficient income to drive the economy and pay their taxes (because unlike the very wealthy, most working people dont have the ability to shelter income, nor are all inclined to shirk their responsibilities), and keep society stable and running smoothly. The middle class and the working class are the real job-producers by sheer weight of numbers. One billionaire investor isnt going to buy a 1,000 pairs of pants in a year, but a 1,000 workers making $67,000.00 per year will buy one or two pairs, thus making at least a 1,000 pairs of pants needed to be made and sold. This isnt about justice or about envy; its about keeping society stable and continuing. If things keep going the direction they are heading now, we are staring down the barrel of another revolution. And that ends up being no good for anyone, wealthy or poor.
