How about for #jillpower jobs we show off a lumberjill! Check out Dana Dowdys incredible story of #jillpower ! My name is Dana Dowdy Im 21 and from Hendersonville NC. Timbersports is for sure something I am die hard passionate for! There is no better rush then competing and being the first girl to bust threw her block and hear the crowd cheering you on, it really gets me pumped! For the past three years I have been attending HCC in Clyde, NC studying fish and wildlife management as well as forestry management, which is how I got introduced to timbersports. Before I went up to HCC Id never even heard of timbersports let alone picked up a chainsaw or an axe! But I sure am glad I did! Ive had the best experiences of my life with that timbersports team, a number one kick butt team might I add! When I first began timbersports i was very nervous first because I had never done anything like that and second because I was a one of only two or three girls on the team, but Ive always been the type when someone says I cant do something I try to prove them wrong. In middle school when all the other girls were on the cheerleading team I went and tried out for the football and made it! So when I discovered timbersports and it was almost completely make dominated all I wanted to do was show all them boys up haha! It wasnt easy tho thats for sure. And you should see the look I get when people ask what I do and I say O, ya know Im just a lumberjill! Rarely do people take me seriously until they see my videos or pictures! Four days a week, hours of practice in freezing cold temps or blazing hot temps, injurys ( mostly huge blisters!) and some nasty cuts and bruises I can now say Ive competed all over the mid Atlantic region and have had several first place finishes in the underhand chop, stock saw, crosscut, axe throw, and pole climb! Timbersports is something that I love and never want to stop improving on! Even after Im threw with school and no longer can compete with my college team I would love to enter into the world lumberjack competition and any other competitions that come up. Ive always wanted to be an athlete and had a super competitive side, I tried a number of different sports throughout high school but none ever really clicked until I found timbersports! And I must say my parents are for sure two people that I admire most in my life and couldnt imagine where I would be with out them! My dad introduced me to the outdoors when I was just a toddler and I grew up fishing, shooting guns and just exploring new places with him all the time, he was always pushing me to be tough work hard and never think I couldnt do something just because I was a girl. And my mom because while she was trying to dress me up in pink dresses and bows when I was younger I was puttin on my football pads and playin in the mud but she still had my back from football and now to timbersports, which I now wear bows in my hair when I compete haha ( its much better to blow a guys time outta the water when youve got bows in your hair) ! So if it wasnt for them I wouldnt be anywhere close to where I am now! Timbersports is certainly in my future!
