How can Christians be so persecuted if we are simply called to love God and love people under the new covenant? When Christians choose to hate the sinner as much as the sin, they chase away those that could be part of the solution instead of the problem; effectively branding all Christians as bigots. This same trend was occurring when Jesus came into the world, born of a virgin. The Pharisees and Sadducees were too good to be associated with the sinners and questioned Jesus when He began preaching to and eating with sinners. The spiritual leaders of those days, much like today, thought that the solution to the problem was to put down sinners. To belittle the broken as the outcasts that they were. Jesus knew the that the solution to the problem was to lift up the sinners and give them hope through the numerous miracles (signs and wonders) he performed. Matthew 9:12-13 NIV On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Physicians and hospitals are for those in poor physical health, churches and pastors are for those of poor spiritual health. The difference between the two is that when patients are born, delivered by a doctor, they come back for shots and MOTRIN. When patients are born again, delivered by Jesus, they receive eternal life and forgiveness of sins. One is free while the other is more costly. And remember; salvation is only free because Jesus paid the price in full. I Corinthians 6:20 NKJV For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
