In some cases, your doctor may need to do a microbial culture to find out which organisms are causing the problem. This will ensure the correct medicine is administered to cure the infection. Sometimes, if the doctor finds a lot of debris in the ear canal, he may need to clean the passageway using special safe techniques—something you should never attempt to do at home because of the risk of rupturing the eardrum and causing serious damage.
