How can a government who seeks policy credibility goes to the IMF - TopicsExpress

How can a government who seeks policy credibility goes to the IMF and lied with the figures they presented. Am surprise we dont seem to learn from our past mistakes, I remember this same NDC government in 1999 lied to the World Bank and Ghana was find an amount of USD 39 million for lying about the true state of the economy. My question is what is the government hiding from the good people of the country? Why cant the government give the true debt profile of the country and you have an institution like the BOG cooking figures to support the government. I was shocked when the IMF team which is currently on the negotiations table yesterday made it clear to the Ghana team that the total debt of the country is a little over 60% but not the 55.4% which was given to them by the government. Am praying hard this will also not attract a possible penalty. The most shocking side of it is the that the IMF has projected a little above 70% debt to GDP by close of year. This is no mean a joke, its a serious revelation and will has a proportional effect on it citizenry. Based on the above chronicle the deputy director of the IMF yesterday said during their second session meeting that looking at the current economic situation the country finds it self in will require tough measures to address it. My question is simply what will the tough measures look like for the ordinary ghanaian? Am only thinking aloud. God have mercy upon this country.
