How can you unlock the teacher inside of you?: One of the greatest feelings in life can be imparting wisdom and helping others engage in subjects they may not be familiar with. While there arent many careers which necessarily allow you to cultivate that feeling on a regular basis, training and education is one of the best. Whether youre embarking on a different pathway in your career - or simply want to keep your skills sharp - these tips will help you unlock and develop your inner teacher: Set defined objectives Your students will benefit if you outline exactly what they should be aiming for from the outset. Not only will this make it easier for you to design the trajectory of your teachings, but targets and goals are a simple and effective way to motivate those learning from you, too. Be a good listener Whether youre talking with someone individually or are addressing a large group, knowing exactly when you should listen is a skill that can be critical. Teaching is very much a two-way street - if what youre explaining isnt getting through and you fail to listen to the feedback, neither you or anyone you are teaching will benefit. Have a sense of humour We all had that one teacher at school who took themselves incredibly seriously and would never crack a smile let alone a joke. Having a sense of humour - and even laughing at yourself if you happen to make a mistake - will not only create a lot less tension in the learning space, but itll show those you are teaching that youve got a personality outside of the classroom, too. Be a people person Anyone you teach will likely warm to you if you take an interest in them on a personal level. If you are teaching teenagers in particular - have a conversation about their hopes and dreams and finding out what really makes them tick can be incredibly beneficial. You can even incorporate this into a mentoring role which will further show them that you have the potential to be a friend as well as a teacher. Enjoy yourself! If you dislike or struggle to grasp the knowledge that you are trying to impart, this is likely to come through in the way you teach. The benefits and satisfaction you can get from helping people learn will always far outweigh the negatives. Keeping that in mind - regardless of how much you may think youre struggling - is a simple way to stay positive and happy. Do you have experience or an understanding of teaching and want to formalise your skills? Capital Training Institute have a number of training and education qualifications and units of competency available which can add value to your CV and help hone your expertise.
