How comforting this parable of the lost sheep is, for who among us is not in some respect lost? Perhaps as disconcerting as it is to have everything in seeming disarray, it is good in that it reminds us of our absolute need for God and even more, of His absolute fidelity toward us, in spite of our wandering ways. Please let us not persist in being wayward. Let us buckle down, get serious and recommit our lives to so good a Shepherd. "The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall not want."
