One sweet shop owner Kartick Chandra Methia has been brutally murdered inside his shop allegedly by some unidentified miscreants of nearby Muslim dominated Sonakopa village. This shop named as ‘Rittika Sweet’ is situated at Jagannathpur junction of Sararhat on Falta road under Falta PS in South 24 Parganas dist. It is a famous shop in the area. Yesterday evening six miscreants came on ridding motor bike, entered the shop, attacked shop owner 42 year old Kartick Ch Methia, shot him from their pistol. Then, as if as vengeance, chopped the victim by sword. At that time, although it was late evening, there were some customers and workers in the shop. But they could not dare to stop the miscreants because they hurled a lot of bombs. Hence everybody was scared. Kartick Chandra Methia as a very successful businessman and popular in the area. He had relation with and used to help various social organisations. His death came as a shock to the local people. The local people in huge number blocked the Falta Road. They are shouting slogans against the miscreants and role of police. The whole Sararhat market is now closed in protest. Heavy police force has arrived the spot lead by DSP Sakir Ali and OC Sudip Singh. They are trying to defuse the tension and remove road block. But local Hindu populace having very little faith on them, especially on these two officers, are in no mood to hear their plea. These two officers are allegedly hand in glove with local criminals and these criminals get political shelter because of their minority status. Kartick Methia left three daughters behind him. Their sorrow and pain inconsolable. His eldest married daughter Monalisa Ghosh is weeping and cursing the police. At this moment Diamond Harbour SDO Smt. Moumita Saha arrived at the spot. In the Kartick Methia’s shop there is CC TV camera. Expectedly the whole incident has been captured in the camera. Therefore it is not difficult to identify the culprits and solve the case in no time. But the local Hindus have very little faith in administration. Their experience is – the era of Salim (Left Front protected notorious criminal) is still continuing in Didi’s tenure too. The administration has got a clear signal time and again that if a criminal is from minority community, police has to be soft on them. Not otherwise. Example – although both are influential TMC leaders, Shambhunath Kao is in jail whereas Munna Iqbal now a free bird. At Sararhat since morning, road block is still being continued by the Hindus.
