How did Muhammad (PBUH) deal with teenagers? Many have - TopicsExpress

How did Muhammad (PBUH) deal with teenagers? Many have requested some examples for my earlier post on How did Muhammad (PBUH) deal with teenagers? I will deal with each point mentioned in a seperate post. Here is the first one: 1. He did not clash or argue and did not judge or blame. Anas ibn Malik, served the Prophet (PBUH) during all of his teen years, said: When I did something he never said: Why did you do that? and when I did not do something, he never said Why didn’t you do that? That did not mean that the Prophet never taught or instructed youngsters, but when he did, he did not embarrass or hurt their feelings but maintain their dignity and self-esteem, particularly in front on their siblings or peers. Again, Anas: once the Prophet asked me to do a task but one my way to I saw a group of children playing. I completely forgot about the task and I started playing with them. Somebody held onto my ears and picked me up and I turned around to find the Prophet smiling at me Just a smile and nothing else, as if to say: I understand how important playing is for you. He could have said: how dare you ignore my prophetic order? Or how careless or irresponsible of you? Are you here to serve me or play with the kids?! Too often we get angry at our teenagers, and vent our anger through rebuking, blaming, judging, calling names etc. which does nothing in terms of teaching expect devalue their self-esteem; something that the Prophet (PBUH) never did with teenagers, or with anyone else for that matter. (To be continued!)
