How did Viking women get their hair to stay in place, or do people - TopicsExpress

How did Viking women get their hair to stay in place, or do people believe it was just left hanging down all the time? They didnt have lackies, or scrunchies or bobby pins. Yes, they had pins of a sort, but they were decorative, not structural. They wont HOLD the hair for hours or all day (or for several days even. R and I conducted an experiment last Easter along the lines of the following article (which is about the latest theories on how Roman hairstyles were secured) to see how it would work on my ponytail. It stayed in place for over 24 hours (I slept on it 1 night) until I took it out just before I left the event. Stayed exactly where she sewed it. The bone needles from Hald (which people usually copy for doing nålebinding) would certainly be perfect for the job and because of the structure wool grips beautifully. Comments? Opinions? Im thinking of repeating the experiment at Killaloe & Clontarf to keep a small bun in place under that cap thingie. A helping hand from someone else there would be gratefully appreciated. https://docs.google/a/huffingtonpost/viewer?a=v&q=cache:f8lkgBuKk10J:journalofromanarch/samples/v21.110_adj.pdf+&hl=en&gl=us&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESjX7egEdeSfxTcv0PFHOBCp7irGHgxtVe5LykiO1xZaYUXOwco3gwv5fJ6YmAXZiOk2gZdaYopWIv5TX2bynSMnYDbkcrCBnOq7HhaUp2cjTl7wZuGOk-ah1R9J7RlWomykzkYH&sig=AHIEtbTGBbH6vQdqSKf1yks469UMThAQ4A
