How did someone obtain the consecrated Host to begin with? To receive on the tongue and then take It out and hide It is possible but the Host gets moist long enough from the time one receives to the time one can kneel in the pew and remove It from the mouth unseen and hide It. Perhaps a tabernacle was forced open. Then many Hosts could have been stolen. Or, perhaps, it was due to communion in the hand, perhaps the easiest way to steal one because its easy for clergy and EMs to ignore what each communicant does with It. I keep an eagle eye and immediately go after someone taking It even a few steps from me without consuming. I also refuse to give It if the communicant does not hold his/her hands properly. But there are so many problems with communion in the hand which even Paul VI warned of, even as he gave permission for it. I appeal to people to seriously return to the norm, as stated by Paul VI and current legislation, even if you are most devout and careful when receiving in the hand, because receiving on the tongue does promote among everyone, including the not so devout or careful, the norm in the Church of receiving on the tongue, and reducing the risk not only of theft but also of profanation and a decrease in faith in the Real Presence.
