How do you define friend? Well to me, to be a friend means to always give that person the benefit of the doubt, no matter what Ive heard...to hold a vision of that person that I know they want to become, most importantly when they are struggling or when they fall down or when theyve been less than the person they wish to be, my belief is that, as that persons friend, its my role to help them see themselves as they are, not as their shortcoming of the moment. As a friend, I believe it is my responsibility to not only tell the truth, but also to have cultivated the ability to hear the truth, to hear things not necessarily easy to hear and not punish them for telling me. Also, I believe in reinforcing strengths and not emphasizing weaknesses, appreciate whats right and good, resist burying resentments and avoid criticism for the sake of satisfying those resentments. Toward my friends, I always have their best interests at heart, no matter what it may seem like to them and when Im thinking about something they said or did, I consider their intentions to be honorable and in support of me because mine are toward them. Dont assume Im talking about you when Im expressing my frustrations. If I mean you, I will tell you directly and plainly...but with some graciousness. Whew! I just needed to get that out of my head.....and be open to some new friends.
