How do you determine your pay? Do you have an idea of what you are worth? Or are you just low balling yourself to get the job. The real question is do you know i you are low balling yourself? Determining you pay is in it self a skill. How do you determine what to ask for. If you do not know, then use glassdoor. This will help you get an idea, but then you could be basing your salary too high for your level experience you currently hold. It is like your first date, there is a 50% percent change that youll get a bruised cheek after puckering up. There is also a 50% chance that you get to walk home with a paralyzing smile on your face that will last for day. No guts, no glory. The best advice I can give you is from Al Bundy. Ashes from the past for burgers of the future. This was Als secret to the ultimate burger. My secret to you is this. What you learn this year dictates your pay for next year. The moves I have made have been strategic and have all served a purpose. However, once a job is received, you must be able to take what you have learned there to your future ventures. Lets think about it. You worked at Walmart for 2 years. What skills did you learned at walmart that is going to help you at your next job? Unless you got your CCNA and man-handled your way into their network and starting fixing problems, then mostly likely nothing. You worked in a so called NOC and all you did was move tickets around, got other people to do your tickets for you, or called the carrier everything you saw a failed ping on the board. What skills will you be taking to the next job? Now if you took your job seriously as I am sure you did your studies, than maybe the outcome would be different. So now you learned somethings this year. Great....... now what level does this put you on? Is what you learned this year bringing you up to par or passing your current level? So like Al Bundy...... What you have done this year is what you use to price yourself out next year. Ashes of the Past. Your job must be a avenue of constant learning. And it is not easy to find when you are starting out. It is a catch 22. You must have enough experience in order to start learning. The rich get richer. So used your time to learned the skill this year that will get you your higher pay next year. Whatever an employer will not give you, than take it. How do you take it, by studying and labbing at home.
