How do you feel about a middle-aged spinster spy named Jemimah Bond? I started a book today and now am wondering if its a good idea. LOL. Heres Page 1. In a few minutes Jemimah Bond would be a retired spy. The contents of her austere office had been packed up earlier that morning and were now on their way to be destroyed. She looked around the bare room with mild interest. There was not a single item left to indicate what it might have been used for. It had been emptied and electronically cleaned and swept to the glass walls and concrete floor. Jemimah pondered the brutally stark remains. It was neither a monk’s cell nor a prison cell, but somewhere in between. She briefly thought about the previous thirty years of her life, as she supposed a neutral outsider might, but stopped when she realized a neutral outsider would have no idea that a life such as hers even existed. The security escort arrived and walked her down to check out, as if she were leaving a hotel after a pleasant overnight stay. In this final part of the ritual she surrendered her badge, identity card, and cell phone, submitted to a thorough full body search and scan, and was escorted outside. They left her standing at the curb. She took a deep breath and looked around, blinking at the bright sunlight. Now she was free. Whatever that meant.
